According to The Bay Citizen in San Francisco, Calif., the nearby San Mateo County Board of Supervisors recently voted to join a bike-share kiosk partnership made up of local agencies participating in the Regional Bicycle Share Pilot Project to be administered by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.
The bike-share kiosk program will connect Caltrain commuters to bike kiosks at train stations in five Bay Area cities.
The partnership's goal is to put up to 1,000 bikes in more than 100 kiosks along Caltrain's Peninsula corridor, to serve as commute extenders, according to an air district spokesman.
The pilot program, scheduled to launch next summer, will deploy the kiosks in San Francisco, Redwood City, Mountain View, Palo Alto and San Jose in Northern California — and is being funded by $4.29 million in grant funds awarded to the air district by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
